It's tiring to tell libs that its actually CPC instead of CCP.

  • CCP = Chinese China Party (???)
  • CPC = Chinese Party of China (correct)

I'm literally going to drop kick someone who gets it wrong!!!

Thoughts? Is it worthwhile to correct people on this?

Dropkick liberals because it's praxis

Actually, tankie, it's Cee Cee Pee (Chinese embarrassment enveloping Communism except everyone Performs evilness everywhere)

I am ashamed to admit that I find 'CCPC' to be mildly amusing due to how the pronunciation can be interpreted in some languages.

[–] hello_hello@hexbear.net 7 points 1 year ago

I know exactly what you're talking about L'MAO (red-sun ) since in my Bangla it sounds... very smelly.

[–] mar_k@hexbear.net 8 points 1 year ago (1 children)

i argued with a lib about this and how westerners did the same thing during vietnam with VCP instead of CPV to racistly emphasize the nationality.. didn't go anywhere they just called me a crazy reaching tankie and said chinese communist party "rolls off the tongue better"

[–] hello_hello@hexbear.net 6 points 1 year ago

Sorry u had to deal with that. Educating people about the Chinese Party of China is bitter work.

i tend to take the tack that it's not particularly fruitful to argue about semantics of a foreign name unless you're going to be there or interfacing directly. does the party actually care how nobody yankees refer to them? would you care what order an abbreviation of your org was in cyrillic?

[–] hello_hello@hexbear.net 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I think since it's so low effort to switch between them that it acts as a good way to see if someone is willing to change their perspective or are stubborn. This is the least material thing though it's just annoying to hear sometimes because chuds over enunciate the first two Cs.

[–] Dolores@hexbear.net 3 points 1 year ago (2 children)

chuds would over enunciate and use CPC like a slur if it became the common parlance, that's just a matter of tone.

i can see both sides of the non chud equation though and i don't think either are worthwhile. yes if someone switches terminology for you it means they're flexible and respectful. but many people, even fellow travellers and comrades can take semantic corrections in a hostile way. focusing on spelling, grammar, naming conventions etc can be seen as ignoring or sidestepping what someone is actually trying to say.

[–] Moonworm@hexbear.net 2 points 1 year ago

People . . . can take semantic corrections in a hostile way.

took me more than relationship to internalize this, even when you don't mean anything hostile by it.

Good point.

I don’t correct them, but I do inject the correct spelling in my reply.

[–] dannoffs@hexbear.net 7 points 1 year ago

I work in coffee and frequently have to deal with names that the (very) white people around me can't pronounce and unless they ask, I don't correct them, I just say it correctly myself.

[–] bbnh69420@hexbear.net 6 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I’ve heard/read that it’s (ccp) technically correct in Chinese and that CPC was adopted to fit communist party naming conventions in the 20th century. I could be full of shit though + I haven’t read any comments here

I suppose if you have the wherewithal to do so, do so.

Frankly its low on my list of concerns so i cant be fucked to do so.

If they insist on saying CCP (only) as the correct form, they should get CBT...

[–] 420blazeit69@hexbear.net 3 points 1 year ago

I think it's only useful as an example (preferably one among many) of how many English-language sources are uninterested in getting even minor details about China right, and/or are showing their bias by their willingness to intentionally take petty cheap shots.

Best quick hit I can think of is:

It's like running across a foreign language source that calls the Democratic Party the Democrat Party. Either they aren't that familiar with the facts or they're cribbing right-wing crank shit.
