If Israel has lost Eurovision enjoyers, their reputation is officially in the shitter.

[–] tocopherol@lemmy.dbzer0.com 9 points 1 year ago

Who knew music fans were rabid antisemites! The world is in the shitter you mean /s

Israel was always disliked in the community, but most members are too spineless to boycott their gay glitter show over a genocide. They will complain all the time but won’t do anything about it. Imo all artists that are participating should be ashamed to work with the hypocritical genocide defending organisation that is the EBU.

Why are they even in eurovision? Is it because they share the quintessentially european cultural tradition of genocidal slaughter?

[–] SteamedHamberder@hexbear.net 35 points 1 year ago (1 children)

say-the-line-bart-2 its because of the European broadcasting network they share. Morocco and Lebanon have been past contestants.

[–] CyborgMarx@hexbear.net 39 points 1 year ago

Morocco

Even the Euros deep down know the time of Al-Andalus will return goku-halal

[–] CyborgMarx@hexbear.net 33 points 1 year ago

The ideology of the ruling class is racialized and they have no illusions about what that means, the idea that geographic logic would hold any sway over them would make them laugh, if pressed plenty of them with admit Israel is a "civilized" European outpost in "a sea of barbarism"

Of course it doesn't stop zionists from making mangled nonsensical claims about indigeneity, the point is to disconcert and confuse their enemies

Same reason why Australia is in

Those protests were particularly vocal after the title of Golan’s entry was announced in February: “October Rain,” an apparent reference to last year’s Hamas attacks, in which Israeli officials say about 1,200 people were killed and 240 taken hostage. The European Broadcasting Union objected that the title and some of the song’s lyrics were overly political, and asked Israel to change them. Golan tweaked the song, which is now called “Hurricane.”

just in case anyone wonders why

[–] Hestia@hexbear.net 43 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (1 children)

"October rain" refers to the countless bombs raining down on Palistinians.

[–] SacredExcrement@hexbear.net 9 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I thought it referred to the helicopter gunships blowing up Palestinians and Israelis indiscriminately when they rained down on 'suspicious' people in the concert in the immediate aftermath

[–] Hestia@hexbear.net 6 points 1 year ago

shhhhhhh... It was for the greater good...

[–] Xx_Aru_xX@hexbear.net 24 points 1 year ago

“Hurricane.”

Israel gets to be in Eurovision? What a sick joke!

chicanery

[–] Hexamerous@hexbear.net 53 points 1 year ago

They had a copium article in the Swedish press the other day whereas the headline asked something along the lines "why is Israel allowed, but not Russia?" and the answer was basically some bullshit that Russian public service didn't fulfill some criteria and this has definitely nothing to do with politics, as they kept reminding you that "Eurovision is not about politics!".

[–] FunkyStuff@hexbear.net 47 points 1 year ago

Chants of "murderer" from the crowd

that's how you know you lost the plot

[–] egg1918@hexbear.net 45 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Lmao Serbian TV yesterday interrupted the Eurovision broadcast to show Xi arriving at the airport hahaha

[–] SkingradGuard@hexbear.net 33 points 1 year ago (2 children)

And here is at the airport, a perfect emoji :xi-wave:

[–] Leon_Grotsky@hexbear.net 6 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Which song are you referencing? What comes to mind for me is U.S.A. by Dubioza Kolektiv

some lyrics

I hoped I'd find what I need and be free like a bird

Now we pushed in a ghetto like a sheep in a herd

All the promises I heard, became empty words

Completely disconnected from the rest of the world

The grass is never greener in neighbour’s court-yard

I want to start all over, return to no man’s land

Send greetings to your leader, don’t want your green card

I want to fly back like a rocket to the Balkans

[–] Lemmygradwontallowme@hexbear.net 6 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I'm from Bosnia, take me to America, song

[–] Leon_Grotsky@hexbear.net 6 points 1 year ago

Speed running pariah state status lol

[–] Hexamerous@hexbear.net 37 points 1 year ago (2 children)

It's astonishing how shitty they've managed this. They could have just... um... not done pogroms against children in a concentration camp, but I guess the fascist blood lust and death drive is too powerful to tame. Not even the most "both sides" brained lib hidden behind 7 layers of carefully curated media obfuscation can ignore the dread they feel knowing children are buried alive in the rubble.

[–] GrouchyGrouse@hexbear.net 22 points 1 year ago (1 children)

It feels so childish. Their "now it's my big shot!" logic came out after the Hamas raids like one of those 90s game shows where you got a shopping cart and 3 minutes to get as much shit as you can. And you're at home watching some kid get like 9 of the same toy while clotheslining shelves yelling "go to the video game section you fuckwit! BE SMARTER THAN THIS!"

[–] Hexamerous@hexbear.net 24 points 1 year ago

brandon Joe "Mr Beast" Biden: "Listen, Jack. Here's a $100 billion to spend on weapons, bribes and hasbara. You get to grab as much land and as you can, anything you grab, it's yours to keep."

It's ridiculously stupid. It's the sort of thing that makes me wonder if Empire's dominance really has lead to their next/this generation of legionaries/acolytes being totally inept.

It's moronic to wage an all out war, when really they could've probably turned it into a cheap labour pool like they did to Panama and El Salvador back in the day, while still maintaining total hegemony in the area. Give them their 'independence', but make sure all of their leaders are 'our [USA's] guys'. If they act up they get struck by the sanctions whip, the economic warfare that liberals are too poorly informed to understand.

People being blown up by missiles on the other hand? Liberals know it's poor optics to support that.

[–] Lerios@hexbear.net 37 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (1 children)

i'm not going to be watching this year (or at least, not live or legally) but i really do wonder how much the BBC/EBU/etc will have to cover for. like, there is a 0% chance that NONE of the young, progressive, deeply online participants will say/do something on the night, plus the crowd, plus the occasional stage invader. one performer has already been bitched at for daring to wear a keffiyeh despite the fact that he is part fucking palestinian. genuine insanity.

like, all the EBU had to do was say that israel's song wasn't good enough to qualify this year and they could have avoided all this. instead, i've now had lib friends asking me what BDS is because they heard about it in eurovision discussions che-smile

[–] AutomatedPossum@hexbear.net 14 points 1 year ago (3 children)

Ireland's contestant was already ordered to change their Gaelic "Free Palestine" body paint after the semifinal.

Sadly I could still see Israel doing really well. Even if most people think they shouldn't be there, you can only vote for a country, not against them, so a minority of hardcore supporters can carry them pretty far.

[–] UmbraVivi@hexbear.net 26 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Israel wins Eurovision because of hardcore zionists voting 300 times each

Eurovision will be held in Tel Aviv again

The Zionist entity falls before the end of 2024

Can't wait for Eurovision to be hosted by free Palestine
