BEAVERS have been discovered living wild in the countryside near Frome, a Somerset charity has confirmed.

The species, which can transform landscapes if they become fully established, have turned up through natural dispersal rather than a reintroduction programme, Heal Rewilding has said.

Charity Heal Rewilding acquired the site in December 2022 and the beavers appeared just over a year later in a tributary of the River Frome, which runs through the heart of the site. Their presence on site was confirmed through observation and surveying, including the use of remote cameras used to capture images and videos of wildlife in their natural habitats.
