You don't stay rich by wasting all your money on something dumb like your kids.

Admittedly, grocery store sheet cake is pretty good tho.

[–] Dolores@hexbear.net 13 points 2 years ago (1 children)

i know the ANC preserved a lot of the whites' ownership and redistribution failed to alleviate poverty

but what im wondering is whats happened to the property of the many who have emigrated since? was it forfeited? sold? or are there lots of absentee owners who just live in other anglo countries?

You can only understand the energy of this picture if you've lived in South Africa before. Just something about it, can't really explain.

He started really young, apparently he also sold some of his dad's emeralds while on holiday in New York as a teenager.

He's told multiple origin stories and the details vary depending on which pieces of the truth are convenient enough to fill in the blanks around the lies.

[–] aaaaaaadjsf@hexbear.net 3 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Yeah a lot of lies, but I think the emerald story is one his dad told to South African news outlets when Elon tried to pull the "I was so poor I left South Africa with no money" story.

[–] JuneFall@hexbear.net 2 points 2 years ago

the emerald story

Oh Musk himself did tell it, too.

I am so glad that I am so drunk that I first thought this was a bit. Well, all I can say about this kid is, that he was most likely not a nice South African.

[–] some_guy@lemmy.sdf.org 7 points 2 years ago

Dopey looking kid.
