Watts and Benge brought up something about Ben White the other day that hadn't occurred to me before.
A lot is being made of White's actions when we have corners, with some commentators (looking at you Graeme Souness, you miserable wanker!) and journalists really grinding the axe about how Ben is egregiously cheating and needs to be punished for it harshly. Yet these same axe-grinders apparently think spurs' keeper coming up and harassing David Raya for their final corner is totally fine.
Watts and Benge think that this crusade against Ben stems largely from bitterness about him saying he doesn't want to play for his country. With these critics either being offended as Englishmen, or feeling this is some permanent, overwhelming stain on his character.
I think Watts and Benge are right - White's international decision has hurt their tender fee-fees. But I think plain old jealousy for his decision about England has also been playing a major factor in their rants.
Either way, they can all go screw themselves.
