It sounds like the company is now blocking access from "bootleg" APKs.

I still don't know what this thing is supposed to do

Their idea was to replace a smartphone with a device that just connects to an LLM to do all your smartphone stuff via voice control.

If that sounds like a bad idea, congrats. Youre right.

It's an interesting futuristic concept, but LLMs, while pretty amazing in their current iteration, are nowhere near ready for that kind of work.

It's not an interesting concept. It's a terrible idea. I don't want to have to say everything I want my device to do. What about privacy? What about using your device in loud places? Everything this device claims to do, my phone can do significantly better and more conveniently. It's a cash grab exploiting people who need to buy the next device tech bros thrust on them just like all ai products.

Its especially funny that under the hood its just an android app that can run on most existing smartphones (until they blcok access, anyway)

You know how everyone wishes they had a different physical device for each app? That's this!

Ahhh the star trek model.

At least the Humane badge attempted to do something unique, albeit half-assedly. The whole Rabbit concept is a joke in a box.

Oh I'm pretty sure they put their whole ass into it.

ifixit did a teardown where they briefly speculated on this and I think they nailed it.

This and the humane piece of shit are, at least partially, trying to avoid app store regulation/rules. Apple have basically always been assholes and google are speedrunning that to the point it is genuinely obnoxious to buy kindle books if you use a cell phone at all.

Combine that with trying to sell a new form factor device (similar to smart watches and the like) and it makes sense. Even if the products themselves are still rather meh.
