"speaking out against anti-Semitism" in this context means calling anyone who criticises Israel anti Semitic while desperately trying to brush the greedy blood drinking hook nosed goblin bankers that have a star of David on the floor under a massive rug

"Left-wing journalist apologises"

Stop doing this. Stop validating the right-wings bullshit. They are counting on you giving them the benefit of the doubt. They are not arguing in good faith so don't play civil with them. Never apologise for being correct.

[–] Leon_Frotsky@hexbear.net 62 points 1 year ago (2 children)

the only reason she apologised was because JK Rowling threatened to sue her because the UK is a fucked up country where any nineteeneightyfour 1984 wrongspeak nineteeneightyfour can get you taken to court and bled dry from legal fees under our fucked up libel laws

yeah, as much as jk rowling goes on about how free speech needs to be utterly protected, she's constantly threatening to sue people who criticise her to shut them up, basically lays bare how all she wants """free speech""" for is to post increasongly fascistic rants on her twitter without criticism

[–] SkingradGuard@hexbear.net 8 points 1 year ago

Fascists are always hypocritical when it comes to freeze peach

[–] ashinadash@hexbear.net 4 points 1 year ago

USA ass vibe

[–] HumanBehaviorByBjork@hexbear.net 37 points 1 year ago (1 children)

i mean it's the UK. if she didn't apologize they could have fined her for damages plus rowling's court fees.

[–] Tabitha@hexbear.net 24 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I'm unfamiliar with the UK, is saying something that's technically and colloquially accurate, and JKR's exact tweets being available to scrutinize, not a valid rebuttal of JKR's (libel/defmation/etc) claims?

[–] Leon_Frotsky@hexbear.net 41 points 1 year ago (1 children)

it would be, and the journalist could plausibly win but only after an incredibly drawn out and expensive legal fight that would bleed most people dry long before it was over

[–] GalaxyBrain@hexbear.net 14 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Reminder that Johnny Depp lost his case against Amber Heard in England where he thought it'd be easier. You can openly publish thst Johnny Depp is a wife beater in england, the courts said so.

Always double down.

"Yeah, you're not a holocaust denier, you're a holocaust supporter. One more word and I'm downgrading you to holocaust perpetrator."

[–] anarchoilluminati@hexbear.net 17 points 1 year ago

Has anyone seen a picture of JK Rowling in the same room with Eva Braun?

I'm starting to get really suspicious.

[–] BountifulEggnog@hexbear.net 12 points 1 year ago

Those two groups are damn near a circle anyway.

[–] Philosoraptor@hexbear.net 28 points 1 year ago

The journalist was forced to apologize under threat of legal sanction. Libel/defamation laws in the UK are absolutely unhinged, and heavily favor the "right" of rich people to not have mean things said about them by anyone. JKR loves using legal threats to silence all criticism of her. She sues people for making fun of her all the time.

[–] Tabitha@hexbear.net 56 points 1 year ago (3 children)

Didn't she write a book where the Good Team was going to stop the Bad Team from preventing the muggles from commiting WW2/the Holocaust?

[–] context@hexbear.net 34 points 1 year ago

yeah exactly she doesn't deny it at all!

[–] LaGG_3@hexbear.net 24 points 1 year ago

Screenplay - that's the meta plot of the Fantastic Beast movies.

[–] Yor@hexbear.net 54 points 1 year ago

The promotional stuff looks like someone fed antisemitic trope into AI. Wild that anyone would approve of that

[–] Graphite22@hexbear.net 45 points 1 year ago (1 children)

it would be funny if she got trapped in her castle searching for a cask of amontillado

[–] GrouchyGrouse@hexbear.net 28 points 1 year ago

"For the love of God, Montressor!"

"Yes, TERFanado, for the love of God."

[–] Leon_Frotsky@hexbear.net 33 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

yeah, they were adverts for the Harry Potter Experience exhibition expanding to include a whole section about gringotts bank, here's the article i got them from: https://www.belfasttelegraph.co.uk/entertainment/film-tv/news/harry-potter-studio-tour-to-expand-to-include-gringotts-wizarding-bank/37760986.html

[–] JoeByeThen@hexbear.net 25 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Wasn't her 'speaking out against anti-Semitism' just her being angry about Corbyn wanting to raise her taxes?

[–] GenderIsOpSec@hexbear.net 23 points 1 year ago

Yeah, but he was such an antisemite for checks notes considering Palestinians humans?

TERF island must be sunk.

[–] rio@hexbear.net 20 points 1 year ago

The journalist should apologize for apologizing

[–] Philosoraptor@hexbear.net 17 points 1 year ago

It's like someone did a photorealistic rendering of "the happy merchant" and Rowling just went with it. Jesus fucking Christ.

[–] GnastyGnuts@hexbear.net 11 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Didn't she write some shitty book after Harry Potter where the plot is the good guys have to keep the villain from preventing the holocaust?

[–] barrbaric@hexbear.net 5 points 1 year ago

That's the screenplay for the second Fantastic Beasts movie.

[–] LaughingLion@hexbear.net 8 points 1 year ago (1 children)

wait she actually uses the star of david in hp?

i never paid that much attention to that lib shit so i must have missed it

[–] barrbaric@hexbear.net 15 points 1 year ago (1 children)

IIRC it's on the floor of the goblin bank in one of the movies. It was already at the physical location and she probably wasn't involved with choosing it.

[–] ashinadash@hexbear.net 3 points 1 year ago

Helluva coincidence...
