sometimes this happens with us too, right?

like right wingers will try making a caricature of a communist who's like "I'm trans and gay and I want to guillotine rich people" and we're like yes. But also right wingers don't know how to be funny, so this doesn't compare exactly

[–] morrowind@lemmy.ml 27 points 1 year ago

The main difference I've seen is right wingers think it's based, unaware they're being made fun off. Leftists know they're being made fun of and go "nah, this is still based"

[–] TheDoctor@hexbear.net 13 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I’d like an example of that because it does indeed sound based

well for one thing I was thinking of all the fascist propaganda that portrays communists as cool skeletons with big sickles

Look how silly this skele man is

Basically leaving things only to the canon. Instead of Death oh the Author, it's The Author is a Lich.

It's an over dependence on lore instead of reading into allegory or interpretations outside of the conscious scope of the creators/writers.

X-Men are just mutants and real people, not characters designed to explore marginalization.

It's media illiteracy.

[–] SpiderFarmer@hexbear.net 14 points 1 year ago (1 children)

That was my second thought. My first thought was a gay with a pretty severe degradation kink.

[–] Magician@hexbear.net 8 points 1 year ago

At first I thought you were referring to the X-Men and that kinda is the appeal of the X-Men. If you're gay and have a degradation kink, X-Men is the comic for you.
