On this day in 1943, the largest Jewish revolt during WWII began when Jews in the Warsaw Ghetto attacked Nazis attempting to deport them to death camps. Nazis razed the entire ghetto block by block, killing more than 7,000 and deporting 42,000.

The Warsaw Ghetto was the largest Jewish ghetto in German-occupied Europe, housing approximately 400,000 Jews in 1940. In 1942, Nazi police and military carried out mass deportations, in total around 265,000 Jews, from the Warsaw Ghetto to the Treblinka killing center. By early 1943, the Warsaw Ghetto's population was down to 70,000 - 80,000.

In 1942, it was abundantly clear to the residents of the Warsaw Ghetto that deportation was a death sentence. Two armed resistance groups were formed that year - the left-wing Jewish Combat Organization (Żydowska Organizacja Bojowa; ŻOB) and the Zionist Jewish Military Union (Żydowski Związek Wojskowy; ŻZW).

On April 19th, 1943, the eve of Passover, Nazis attempted another mass deportation. ŻOB had received advance notice, however, and 700 young Jewish fighters met the Nazi police with resistance.

The rebels lacked formal military training and were poorly equipped, but had the advantage of waging a guerilla war, retreating to the safety of ghetto buildings and tunnels after attacking. Non-armed residents also resisted by refusing to cooperate with police by refusing to assemble at collection points.

In response, the Nazi forces, armed with artillery and tanks, began razing the ghetto block by block. According to Benjamin Meed, a Jew hiding in the "Aryan" part of Warsaw at the time, the entire sky was red from the ghetto's destruction.

Resistance lasted for approximately a month. On May 8th, 1943, German forces succeeded in seizing ŻOB headquarters, and many of the group's commanders are thought to have committed suicide to avoid capture.

Approximately 7,000 Jews while fighting or hiding during the uprising. Police deported approximately 42,000 survivors who were captured during the revolt, most of whom were shot to death in the Nazi "Operation Harvest Festival" (Erntefest). Many Jews (one estimate suggests 20,000) evaded capture and continued to hide in the ruins of the Warsaw Ghetto.

Resisters knew that the uprising was likely doomed, but chose to fight anyway. Marek Edelman, the only surviving ŻOB commander, stated that the inspiration to fight back was "not to allow the Germans alone to pick the time and place of our deaths".

Democracy is when two parties take turns ruling and both of their sales pitches are "we are like those other guys but competent"

Drove my partner to work today and saw a swastika freshly tagged on a building in general view of the road with "2119" next to it, which after looking it up is some nazi sect called blood and soil or some shit

Currently trying to make a genuine connection with decent guys on grindr who haven't made dreadful facial hair choices.

I may be in for a long wait.

Me: pushing myself to do two-a-day workouts that are any combination of heavy lifts and sparring in martial arts.

Then me: sitting in my Internet chair languishing on the verge of tears wishing that I could stop pressing dopamine buttons so I could get up to go get a drink of water and go to the bathroom

Therefore me: pulsing headache of exhaustion from not getting enough sleep (up till 2am), not eating right, not being hydrated, etc.

...

Also me: sit in my bed after 5 hours of rest unable to get back to sleep

What did my body mean by this? Why can't I sleep when I'm obviously exhausted?

Trying to study for IT certs and I'm really starting to get flashbacks to middle school, where I'd get flustered and overwhelmed by studying, retreat to my skinner boxes for hours on end, fail at my homework and tests, fight with my parents over it, and then eventually just give up and barely study at all. This was also a problem in my previous job. Have I actually gotten better at all?

got reminded today of my 5th grade experience in china thanks to hexbear. it was honestly a pretty great time for little me. i’ve forgotten most of the tang dynasty poetry i had to memorize for class but i can still recite mao’s 七律长征 and even back when i thought china was authoritarian or whatever i still knew that poem ruled.

Nmap has been a source of stability in my life and I appreciate it

I know that if I need to scan a network and its hosts, it's always there for me

I vaguely remember some people writing a new port scanner in Javascript or some shit just because nmap is old... kinda annoying. Zoomers just don't have the juice that old hackers do (I say this as a zoomer)

I spent 6 hours today stuck in a real estate investment "networking" event on behalf of a relative. Let's just say that that one video of the Ukrainian guy walking into a city committee meeting with grenades flashed through my mind constantly. A firm reminder to me why violence will undoubtedly be necessary against these ghouls.

Its amazing theres actually one main quest in starfield thats interesting and actually rewards you for paying attention outside of following quest markers. Frustating because it shows bethesda chooses to focus on more mid procuderal generation exploration and bland setting rather than this.

So, I been slowly watchin' Jujutsu Kaisen with my partner, and we heard that our friends really didn't like the first half of the season. So we go in expecting it to suck, and get better. But as we're watching it, we both really enjoy Geto's whole arc, the dynamic between him and Gojo, the moment where he's standing in the shower and the running water sounds like the clapping of those cultists, some genuinely good art. So my girlfriend and I keep looking at each other confused, like, "Why did they say this is bad...?"

Then we get to the second half, and it's just... fuckin'... PEAK Dumb Anime Shit. Characters literally just appear out of thin air to have a fight scene, often with nearly no context, then that fight ends and it just goes on to the next near-contextless fight. Need some drama? Well, let's just fuckin' kill off a main character between contextless fight scenes. How's that? Does that make you FEEL THINGS? We killed this character who's had like 3 scenes of development in 2.5 whole seasons! Hahaaa! The episode which begins and ends with a fight between Sukuna and this entity that Fushigoro summons from nowhere with zero context or buildup was so seemingly pointless and random that it made both of us feel like we didn't even want to watch the last handful of remaining episodes.

So anyway to get to my point, I wanted to ask: Is it a commonly held opinion that the second half of the second season is better than the first? Because uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

I like the quotes that go something like "computers can not be held accountable, therefore they must never make management decisions", mostly because they imagine a better world where people making management decisions are ever held accountable

lmao Rebel Moon Part Two is getting even worse reviews than Part One, which got terrible reviews

very funny watching the Snyderheads try to convince themselves it's actually a masterpiece. "well if all the critics hate it then it must be good" smuglord

Can anyone recommend good books about Stalin? I am poorly informed about his actions and policies and I feel like it’s hard for me to get over the “Stalin was a mass murderer” propaganda narrative
