Can't wait for a ship to get stuck there, holding up 70% of the worlds transports for a month

i think as the crow flies it is about 6.2 million meters from Bohai Bay to Neva Bay, and the country in the middle is actually Mongolia rather than Kazakhstan.

screenshot of google maps' "measure distance" feature, showing that it is about 6.2 million meters from Bohai Bay to Neva Bay

It needs a loop so it's fun for the crews. Otherwise they'll just get bored if it's straight like that. Maybe there could be a ramp over a cool jump.

You joke but this is one of Robert Moses’s cited reasons for making multiple expressways that connect two parkways on opposite sides of Long Island (instead of any kind of trains): So the visiting metropolitan family don’t have to double back the way they came.

Much like OP’s proposed project, they used state power to bulldoze right on through wherever they wanted (unless you were rich enough and wanted them to go some other way)

You've beat the Suez Canal. You've done the Panama Canal on Drought+ mode. Now try the 𝓤𝓡𝓐𝓛 𝓓𝓔𝓐𝓣𝓗 𝓛𝓞𝓞𝓟 and prove you're the greatest cargo ship captain of all time.

Can't wait to see the "photos" on the wall from this ride!

For 5 Rubles, you can get a copy of YOUR photo. For 15, we'll print it on a shirt!

It should go to Hong Kong instead, so we can cut Mt Everest in half.

Good idea, but I think instead we should start at Hanoi, dig right through the spine of the Himalayas, then empty into the Caspian Sea. From there we can go north and empty into the Arctic Ocean, connecting Novaya Zemlya and Hanoi by canal. I think this would be a good use of resources.

[–] kleeon@hexbear.net 9 points 1 year ago

i'd start it at bohai sea to make it shorter

You don't mention where the land goes. Go the full way and make land bridge from SE China to Norway?
