So I made a new character, one that can solo easier but still be a tank and not be kill on sight to all of Norrath. So I made a paladin. You can follow along with my gear using the magelo link, I'll try and keep it updated.

That takes me back... Back when I played, I completely fucked over all of my faction allegiances on my dark elf shadowknight because I wanted the Soulfire sword. I was able to get my standing with the paladin's guild in Freeport up absurdly high to where they let me do hand-ins for the quest. I still had to roll a low-level paladin alt to do a couple of the turn-ins for the quest chain, but I was able to get the sword on my DK. People talk about how buggy Bethesda games are, but SCEA/Verant were right there with them.

Cool! I will probably go for that sword myself on the paladin. Yeah EQ was very buggy back in the day. I remember NPCs would just totally eat quest items and give you nothing in return, upending hours of farming.

Could SK's use Soulfire? Or did you just want to carry it around?

Honestly? I can't remember if the class restriction was in the game back then (circa 2002). I definitely re-did the quest chain using an extremely low-level paladin to get the weapon for that character, too, and used the SK to kill Lucan since I was already KOS with the Freeport guards. So I definitely had it on like a level 6 pally, and one that probably got rendered unusable after a patch on the SK.

Damn, I can't believe people are still playing this game. Do they still charge for it?

I remember in high school there was a kid in our circle of friends who basically dropped out of high school and neglected his girlfriend, a friend of ours in our immediate circle, just to always be playing EverQuest. I wonder if that kinda thing still happens.

There's a f2p model, which I'm on, and also a premium sub model which unlocks the last couple expansions and adds more content. I had a friend that'd stay up until like 3am playing eq on school nights and get like 2 hours of sleep the next day, EverCrack was a real thing.
