The thing about these "permanent erections" is that they're only permanent because you don't live long enough after the spider bite for it to go down.

A more accurate description would be "Terminal Erection"

It's the Brazilian ~~Wondering~~ Wandering Spider. Its venom is one of the deadliest in the world. You'll get an erection before dying because the venom causes blood vessel dilation.

And what do spiders have to wonder about anyway?

The better to see you with.

I've heard that it's not super uncommon to find foreign spiders in supermarket produce. I'm not sure about the erection-inducing kind though. (I guess they're not sending their best...)

The researchers are testing a new drug derived from the venom of the Brazilian wandering spider (Phoneutria nigriventer), also called the banana spider because it is sometimes accidentally exported in banana shipments. It is one of the most toxic species of spiders in the world.

Among other symptoms — including increased blood pressure, nausea, abdominal cramps and convulsions — this spider's bite can cause a "prolonged and painful erection, which can lead to necrosis of the penis," meaning death of its tissues

Sounds fun

That's what I want, an ED treatment where taking too much risks my dick falling off.

[–] Fubarberry@sopuli.xyz 2 points 1 year ago

I mean, that's kinda a risk with any ED medicine from what I understand. All of those kind of medicines have warnings about if you have an erection lasting more than x hours that you need to immediately see a Dr. When you're erect, the blood is trapped in your penis, and if it's trapped for too long it can cause tissue damage and tissue death.

So it's a risk with all/most ED medicines, just significantly more of a risk with spider bites.

What are the symptoms if one of these bites a woman?

[–] Chainweasel@lemmy.world 21 points 1 year ago

The same as a man, she would get an erection, (that happens to the clitoris when a woman is aroused) then she would promptly die.

[–] Kiosade@lemmy.ca 14 points 1 year ago

Your school system failed you if you don’t know that women’s genitalia swell up with blood just like men’s do when aroused.
