You should read “the rise and fall of the third Reich“ by William Schirer.

The powers that be in Germany at the time thought they could control Hitler. Hitler was a complete buffoon.

None of that stopped Hitler from taking control.

Yep, this is why it's so dangerous when people think that Trump would never be a successful dictator because he's such a moron – I'd argue that the majority of dictators have been buffoons, but that's exactly what their appeal is. Violent idiots look at them and go "he's like me! He says it like it is!"
