Glad they finally innovated taking .1 seconds to flip a switch into staing at a screen for 10 seconds. Truly worth 100k dollars.

I love software that secretary adds shit without me knowing. Makes me feel safe and in control.

Also what the fuck is a frunk?

Also what the fuck is a frunk?

Front trunk. In some EVs, there is an extra trunk under the hood, where the engine bay would be.

The metal lid is the bonnet, the frunk is the storage compartment under the bonnet. Again, this isn't a new invention, back when old VW beetles were rear engined, people somewhat commonly called the storage compartment at the front end a frunk.

Is this emoji Finkelstein being flabbergasted by Destiny's foolishness during that recent debate? I love the emojis here, best ones on the world wide web.

Isn't Elon so innovative? After the last software update, you can turn on heated seats without paying a subscription for it! They also added Tetris to the touchscreen games.

lmao this would get you outed as a troll too quick, everyone knows Musk would never give something away for free

Elon, getting rid of buttons and regulations to own the libs

[–] TreadOnMe@hexbear.net 24 points 1 year ago (1 children)

This is really shit design. The whole reason that the flood light are on a knob is so you can easily turn it off when there is a car approaching you.

[–] Shinji_Ikari@hexbear.net 13 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

Flood lights/highbeams are different than fog lights. Fog lights point down and a bit out for visibility around the front of your car. You don't need to toggle those for oncoming traffic.

[–] PointAndClique@hexbear.net 21 points 1 year ago (2 children)

In no way is frunk a word for front trunk please please god

[–] EmmaGoldman@hexbear.net 20 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Yes, that's been the term for a front storage compartment since at least the 1970s.

[–] PointAndClique@hexbear.net 9 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (3 children)

TIL. It's not a common term here. We call the trunk the boot, and front storage is exceedingly rare so that I've never encountered a car with it. I guess frunk will catch on in the absence of a 'froot'

[–] EmmaGoldman@hexbear.net 7 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Yeah, front storage went away for a while when air cooling faded away and rear-engined cars became exclusively rich guy sportscars. Now that EVs are becoming more common, most of them have a little storage compartment under the hood or bonnet, so frunk is becoming a more popular term again.

I think tailgate is still the correct term even where the rear storage is the boot, but I've heard it more colloquially called a "boot lid"

[–] PointAndClique@hexbear.net 5 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (1 children)

under the hood or bonnet, so frunk is becoming a more popular term again

Ah yeah see, without learning the word frunk I would have said bonnet storage or just bonnet, then I read your other comment saying that the bonnet is the metal flap, so that's another TIL!

Tailgate in Australia means to drive up someone's arse/not keep the safe distance between you and the driver in front, I'm guessing deriving from that they're on your tailgate. Interesting stuff, thanks.

[–] EmmaGoldman@hexbear.net 7 points 1 year ago

Yep! North Americans also call driving too close (and partying out of the back of ones car as one might pregame outside a sporting event) tailgating for the same reason: proximity to the vehicle's tailgate.

[–] Frank@hexbear.net 5 points 1 year ago

Frbtoootnoont.

[–] HexBroke@hexbear.net 2 points 1 year ago

I reckon you'd still call it a boot, I don't see why the name has to change because it's in a different spot on the car

[–] EmmaGoldman@hexbear.net 15 points 1 year ago

The hood or bonnet is the foldy uppy piece of metal in the front, the tailgate is the one in the back. The trunk or frunk is the storage compartment under that piece of metal.

This isn't a 21st century techbro term invented for Teslas, it's been in somewhat common usage since at least the 70s when rear-engined air-cooled VWs and Porsches were still common.

[–] MF_COOM@hexbear.net 20 points 1 year ago

Wait Tesla lights get even brighter

[–] RyanGosling@hexbear.net 18 points 1 year ago

Teslas are one of the most infuriating cars I’ve had the displeasure of driving. Literally everything was in the middle console. You have to take your eyes off the road then to the middle of the car losing any kind of peripheral vision of the front.

Not only that but you have to go through like 10 different menus to turn some bullshit on.

The only thing worse than this is the Ford trucks that have the same features, except the dashboard is still normal. But everything else? Want to turn on the AC? Better fiddle with a fucking 5 FPS computer screen while driving at 60 MPH in a suburban tank.
