Transgender day of visibility has been March 31st for years, Biden didn't co-opt Easter for trans people (not that I would care if he did).

[–] Fester@lemm.ee 103 points 1 year ago (2 children)

So it’s whoever decided to make Easter the first Sunday after the first Saturday after the first full moon after the spring equinox’s fault, this year.

[–] kraftpudding@lemmy.world 4 points 1 year ago

Hosius of Corduba better be watching out, transphobes are gonna come for his ass

[–] Tarquinn2049@lemmy.world 30 points 1 year ago

I will say, this is probably gonna go down as the "most visible" visibility day, due to the coincidence.

I don't grasp why anyone thinks they have to choose like ... how does the existence of one holiday mean erasing another, it doesn't

[–] Letstakealook@lemm.ee 36 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I worked with a trashy white woman who was mad that we had pride stuff up for June and Juneteenth stuff up on the 19th because of Father's day (what?). So the whole crew decided to troll by having fake conversations in her presence about how father's day should only be celebrated by gay black fathers. We were all happy when at he was every eventually fired.

[–] LinkOpensChest_wav@lemmy.blahaj.zone 17 points 1 year ago (3 children)

Oof I had a counselor once who went off unprompted about how there's a MLK Day but no White Person Day, among other manifestations of bigotry I've encountered in my community

[–] brotkel@programming.dev 16 points 1 year ago (3 children)

Even if they had a day (which they do, it’s the various holidays for different European cultures) they’d still complain. Like how the only time people mention International Men’s Day is when they say why don’t we have one during International Women’s Day in February. But not in June, which is when International Men’s Day actually happens.

[–] SoleInvictus@lemmy.blahaj.zone 12 points 1 year ago

Damn, those search spikes are like clockwork. Could we harness cyclical outrage to generate power, like the tides?

[–] metaldream@sopuli.xyz 5 points 1 year ago

The equivalent of MLK Day is Presidents’ Day. I’m not even sure what you mean by European holidays, Halloween? I would not consider Christian holidays like Easter or Christmas to be white holidays and can’t think of anything else that qualifies as “European”

[–] yetAnotherUser@feddit.de 5 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

Since when is it in June? https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/International_Men's_Day says it's on November 19th.

Are there two international men's days or why is there a spike in June?

[–] zea_64@lemmy.blahaj.zone 11 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Like a child complaining there's no children's day...

[–] LinkOpensChest_wav@lemmy.blahaj.zone 17 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Tbf the fact that there's no LinkOpensChest.wav Appreciation Day feels like a major oversight

[–] zea_64@lemmy.blahaj.zone 9 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I love this analogy, because you literally have a birthday and forgot about it lol.

This is true! 🥳

I've heard similar complaints about February. Bigots gonna bigot, I suppose.

[–] HenchmanNumber3@lemm.ee 8 points 1 year ago

No, you're only allowed to have 365 holidays! Maybe an extra one for February 29th, but that one's already taken anyway.

The idea of a holiday is entirely arbitrary and the meaning and value is entirely subjective for any given holiday. Getting upset because your made up religious holiday happened to coincide with some other designated day is just irrational.

but here I am trying to find logic and reason

[–] stevedidwhat_infosec 59 points 1 year ago (1 children)

The amount of dissonance in the rich and famous is astounding.

[–] pennomi@lemmy.world 39 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Dissonance is not limited to the rich and famous; they just have more potential to do damage than the rest of us.

[–] stevedidwhat_infosec 16 points 1 year ago (3 children)

Did I claim it to be?

Huh?

[–] TheEEEdiot@sh.itjust.works 21 points 1 year ago (2 children)

This is how I pictured that "huh?"

[–] stevedidwhat_infosec 4 points 1 year ago

I can’t remember this scene specifically, but if it’s sudden and immediate bewilderment and confusion, you’ve hit the nail on head 😂😂

I thought we all knew already that anyone was capable of cognitive dissonance because, well, that’s the whole point of cognitive dissonance and why it’s dangerous/tricky

[–] Mog_fanatic@lemmy.world 11 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Not everything is an attack relax lol. The comment is just mentioning it's not limited to the rich and famous. That's all.

[–] stevedidwhat_infosec 5 points 1 year ago

And not every question asked is asked with outrage…

Maybe you’re reading too far into my 7 word post…

I don’t understand why you made the assumption that I was anything less than chill while asking a pretty simple, neutral toned, 6 word question

Well I can think of reasons, but I’d like to hear your actual rationale

Edit: blocked commenter who responded to this, didn’t want to talk to discuss, just wanted to dictate and push their reality on others. Cyber gaslighting, wild.

Why doesn't Caitlyn Jenner speak at GOP conferences if she hates Biden and trans people so much?

[–] xantoxis@lemmy.world 36 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (1 children)

She ran for governor of California. As a Republican. She doesn't go to GOP conferences because she might get eaten by the leopards. The political and religious posturing is all a grift, which in a way makes her a perfect Republican, but they can't really claim her, for the same reason.

[–] Retrograde@lemmy.world 6 points 1 year ago

Dang those pesky face eating leopards

[–] Jimmyeatsausage@lemmy.world 7 points 1 year ago

Because she's only useful to them as a prop? They don't want to see or hear her... ew ...but its useful to have a trans person spout your anti-trans talking points. Reminds me of that Trump rally where he pointed out the like 1 POC there like "look at MY African American"

because she tried to run for governor of california as a republican and found out that republicans only like her to use her to attack marginalized people

[–] Lladra@lemmy.world 43 points 1 year ago

Poor thing. Trying to be relevant. Bless her heart.

[–] fsxylo@sh.itjust.works 23 points 1 year ago

Why would you have a problem with that Caitlyn HMMMM??

[–] SuddenDownpour@sh.itjust.works 18 points 1 year ago

JESUS IS RISEN... and she's divine.

[–] MonkderDritte@feddit.de 14 points 1 year ago

'HE' is risen

Kinky. 😏

[–] Harbinger01173430@lemmy.world 14 points 1 year ago (3 children)

[–] DragonTypeWyvern@literature.cafe 15 points 1 year ago (1 children)
