On one hand I'd really like to receive something like this but the part where someone photographs you and uploads it for clout is really offputting.

[–] flames5123@lemmy.world 17 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I don’t think it’s for clout. I think it’s to show other people how nice life can be. Sometimes we need a reminder to appreciate the people we love.

[–] livus@kbin.social 8 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

Fair enough. I think for me it just seems too intimate to be a "let's show other people" focused moment, but everyone's different.

It looks like their cringe kid was the paparazzi here, not the dad. None of them are even looking at the camera.

If you don't like stuff like that, you maybe shouldn't visit this community, lots of wholesome stuff is like that.

[–] BleatingZombie@lemmy.world 12 points 1 year ago (2 children)

I don't think "if you don't like it, then get out" is a very wholesome sentiment

Something tells me you shouldn't be the gatekeeper for this community

[–] ilinamorato@lemmy.world 6 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I read it as "if you don't like it, then a place where it's the explicit purpose might not be for you," which is pretty wholesome in its earnestness to me.

[–] RootBeerGuy@discuss.tchncs.de 5 points 1 year ago

Yeah, that describes it better. Thank you for writing that out, I do get it I should have elaborated but you can only write as much.

[–] RootBeerGuy@discuss.tchncs.de -2 points 1 year ago

Alright. Let me turn your point if view around. Assuming I want to be the gatekeeper for wholesomeness when I never even said so is not a very wholesome sentiment. Does that make you a gatekeeper for this community?

[–] livus@kbin.social 4 points 1 year ago

Thanks @RootBeerGuy but I'm all good.

I like this community a lot, and this is the first time I've ever been disconcerted after clicking.

Wish I knew! I’m hoping that’s the baby girl making the post.

[–] some_guy@lemmy.sdf.org 7 points 1 year ago (2 children)

You wouldn't include it in a valentine's day poem if she died, I don't think.

[–] volvoxvsmarla@lemm.ee 4 points 1 year ago

I disagree, I think the Valentine's day poem - as a retrospect of years spent together - should have ups and downs. It already has the sadness of the sick baby girl for example, whether she made it or not. Even if she died - she lived (at least for a brief moment in time) and her existence was significant for the couple. She should be mentioned as she is still part of their family and probably they still love her and think about her, even if she is not with them anymore. So it would make sense to me to include it either way. A bond that survived a loss like this should be celebrated.

That being said, I also sincerely hope it's her who posts this.

She is taking all the wholesome photos for you

[–] fleabomber@lemmy.world 18 points 1 year ago (2 children)

I'm already not living up to unrealistic expectation guys, come on.

[–] garbagebagel@lemmy.world 8 points 1 year ago (1 children)

My boyfriend wrote me a birthday poem once but it was about dick cheese. Then he gave me a jar of fake dick cheese. We're coming up on our 8 years. You'll meet someone with low enough expectations one day.

[–] fleabomber@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago (2 children)

That is adorable. What is fake dick cheese?

[–] garbagebagel@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

The gift itself was just a jar with a label he made that said "(my name)'s dick cheese". Then he put some white food substance in there I don't recall exactly what it was but didn't look like real dick cheese thankfully.

If you're asking me what actual smegma is though.... I won't ruin it for you, but I'll say a jar of parmesan would've been more accurate.

[–] fleabomber@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

Lol I know what smegma is. He seems like a good lad. Best to you both.

[–] Olhonestjim@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago

I imagine feta.

[–] sukhmel@programming.dev 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Your unrealistic is just not unrealistic enough, what a poser of an impostor are you

[–] fleabomber@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

I'm not sure how I feel about that.

[–] papalonian@lemmy.world 10 points 1 year ago (4 children)

His last poem be like, "now read the first line of every poem"

One of the few times a Rick roll would actually be appropriate.
