China is increasingly targeting people outside its borders in a tactic known as transnational repression, which aims to stifle debate or criticism.

Steve Tsang, the director of the Soas China Institute, says Chinese student protesters in the UK have long been photographed and monitored, but the practice “may well” have increased with newer surveillance technology.

Students say their families in China have also been threatened by local authorities, warning them to stop engaging in political activities overseas.

I saw a thread on lemmygrad where a user asked if they should report a fellow Chinese student, who had been critical of the xi regime.

I just thought that was incredible. What did they think to gain?

That's orchestrated by the CCP. Chinese students abroad are forced to pledge loyalty to the regime and sign a document before they leave their country. At two Swedish universities cut ties with the China Scholarship Council over this practice.

A leading British university has launched an investigation over its decision to ban an academic from teaching a “provocative” course involving China in order to protect its commercial interests.

Currently, Universities in England could have to change or end their partnerships with countries such as China under a new system designed to protect freedom of speech.

Yes, but this was a student from the non-China country (the lemmygrad user) wondering if he should report a student that was from China, but critical of the regime.
