It’s a little disingenuous to use market cap as evidence here. “WOW $400 million!!” People will say.

The stock is down 1% in the past 5 days. Half the shit in my portfolio has moved more than that in the last week

Edit: I am not saying the protest shouldn’t continue, just that it’s not necessarily a massive success based on a 400 million hit in market cap

Edit 2: I should have read more than a couple paragraphs. It’s actually bigoted right wingers protesting, in which case they can continue their temper tantrum if they’d like, it doesn’t matter

Ah, a conservative boycott. So, nothing. That's what's happening. nothing.

I ... I wasn't even aware there was a boycott. It must be being tremendously successful ...

"tumbles" it's around the same level it's been revolving around for the last five years.

It dropped 8% in a single day. That's not a tumble?

Looks like all the wing nuts really made a statement. Seems like that statement was that they were ready to take a loss for their laurels and were promptly replaced by value investors. Stock seems to have recovered back to pre-hissy value.

"We will retake this county by force if necessary, just we tried on January 6 . . . but we won't go to the gym to get fit enough to do it. Their bathrooms scare us."

But seriously, this could be a longer-term issue for Planet Fitness. Their business model in large part relies on people paying for a membership they do not use and never have the drive to cancel. The people who canceled their memberships were likely already not using the gym, so they would have no reason to renew their membership if Planet Fitness changes its course. That means the boycott could have a longer fiscal impact, but Planet Fitness has no reason to change from their established course and risk angering another customer bar.

Maybe this could cause Planet Fitness to lean harder into being publicly progressive in the hopes of maintaining or growing their customers in the non-angry segment. It is interesting to consider.

Jeez, the list grows...I'm surprised no one tried setting one on fire, seems to be first option when they boycott something

*cancel culture. It’s different than boycotting for some reason

Thanks for pointing that out, it's difficult to stay up-to-date on everything that outrages the typical MAGAt
