Welcome to the discussion of US Politics!

Rules:

  1. Post only links to articles, Title must fairly describe link contents. If your title differs from the site’s, it should only be to add context or be more descriptive. Do not post entire articles in the body or in the comments.

Links must be to the original source, not an aggregator like Google Amp, MSN, or Yahoo.

Example:

  1. Articles must be relevant to politics. Links must be to quality and original content. Articles should be worth reading. Clickbait, stub articles, and rehosted or stolen content are not allowed. Check your source for Reliability and Bias here.
  2. Be civil, No violations of TOS. It’s OK to say the subject of an article is behaving like a (pejorative, pejorative). It’s NOT OK to say another USER is (pejorative). Strong language is fine, just not directed at other members. Engage in good-faith and with respect! This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban.
  3. No memes, trolling, or low-effort comments. Reposts, misinformation, off-topic, trolling, or offensive. Similarly, if you see posts along these lines, do not engage. Report them, block them, and live a happier life than they do. We see too many slapfights that boil down to "Mom! He's bugging me!" and "I'm not touching you!" Going forward, slapfights will result in removed comments and temp bans to cool off.
  4. Vote based on comment quality, not agreement. This community aims to foster discussion; please reward people for putting effort into articulating their viewpoint, even if you disagree with it.
  5. No hate speech, slurs, celebrating death, advocating violence, or abusive language. This will result in a ban. Usernames containing racist, or inappropriate slurs will be banned without warning

We ask that the users report any comment or post that violate the rules, to use critical thinking when reading, posting or commenting. Users that post off-topic spam, advocate violence, have multiple comments or posts removed, weaponize reports or violate the code of conduct will be banned.

All posts and comments will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. This means that some content that violates the rules may be allowed, while other content that does not violate the rules may be removed. The moderators retain the right to remove any content and ban users.

That's all the rules!

Ideals don't die. The damage is done, a new host will be possessed when this one dies. If there is anything I've learned about history, this wound will not heal properly.

[–] Tylerdurdon@lemmy.world 32 points 2 years ago (1 children)

I didn't think so. Look at all of the wannabes that stepped up trying to be "the next Trump" during primaries. It was all a farce.

The pendulum has swung in this direction before in the 50's and 60's. In some ways things are worse than those decades, but in others they're better.

History will definitely remember this as a dark time politically though, that's for sure.

[–] BrianTheeBiscuiteer@lemmy.world 11 points 2 years ago

Hard to be the next Trump when the real Trump is on the same ballot.

[–] EdibleFriend@lemmy.world 21 points 2 years ago

That's the scariest thing. Trump is an absolute fucking moron. We may keep him out of office but eventually another republican is gonna get elected and Trump has shown them just how far they can actually go.

[–] space@lemmy.dbzer0.com 11 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago)

Same happened in ancient Rome. Once Julius Caesar crossed the Rubicon and showed to every ambitious general that they can become dictator for life, the republic was over. It didn't matter that he was murdered, another ambitious man took his place (Octavian).

The forces at play didn't go away. There'll still be the greed of the rich, the disconnect of a large part of the population and the tendency for a theocracy. They'll indeed manifest themselves again.

Did you read through the entire article? Curious about your thoughts on other fascist movements shriveling

[–] BossDj@lemm.ee 42 points 2 years ago (1 children)

No matter how where when he dies, there will 100% be a conspiracy behind it

[–] nxdefiant@startrek.website 25 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Sucked backwards down the golden shitter on his plane, mid flight, shredded, and strewn across the Atlantic. The oil slick would be the size and shape of Florida, and the damage to sea life, severe, but I think it would be worth it for the spectacle.

Like a gender reveal but for demonic possession

[–] some_guy@lemmy.sdf.org 25 points 2 years ago (2 children)

This is why I plan to get the fuck out if he wins. USA will be a fascist state during my lifetime. I’m concerned it’ll happen a lot sooner than later.

[–] Gradually_Adjusting@lemmy.world 7 points 2 years ago

Have a plan. I left shortly after voting him out, certain it was just the beginning of the end (...of the end of the beginning, a sad finale played off key on a broken down saloon piano on the outskirts of a forgotten ghost town. I shall never set foot in it again.)

[–] dis_honestfamiliar@lemmy.world 3 points 2 years ago (2 children)

Does it bother you, or anyone else, that if he loses, he'd still able to run next time around?

[–] nnullzz@lemmy.world 18 points 2 years ago

He’d be pushing 82 by then. Not sure how well the next 4 years will treat him, but the odds are in our favor.

[–] iamericandre@lemmy.world 17 points 2 years ago

I’m hoping he doesn’t even make it to this election

[–] Ensign_Crab@lemmy.world 24 points 2 years ago (1 children)

So Democrats will always have a fascist to run against, so they'll never move to the left.

[–] distantsounds@lemmy.world 18 points 2 years ago (1 children)

…so they’ll continue to slide right.

[–] Sneptaur@pawb.social 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

They’ve been sliding left in recent years

Trump is already a massive man-child, imagine how untenable his children will be when daddy dies.

[–] slurpeesoforion@startrek.website 25 points 2 years ago (1 children)

His kids probably think they're smarter than he is. And they very well may be. But not by much.

[–] DarkDarkHouse@lemmy.sdf.org 21 points 2 years ago

They don’t have the charisma. His kids are not the next head of the hydra.

[–] Jaysyn@kbin.social 13 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Yeah it will. His children are completely charisma free.

[–] S_204@lemm.ee 16 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Ivanka is the G in lasagna. Bitch moves in silence but with violence. Her and that husband of hers need to be watched, they're not up to anything good.

[–] LifeInMultipleChoice@lemmy.world 8 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Dude got me side eyeing lasagna, where is that quote from?

[–] MegaUltraChicken@lemmy.world 9 points 2 years ago (1 children)

"Real Gs move in silence like lasagna" - 6'7', Lil Wayne

Not sure if that's what they're referencing though.

[–] S_204@lemm.ee 4 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago)

You got the reference but I added some biggie Smalls to it for better depth.

[–] itsgroundhogdayagain@lemmy.ml 10 points 2 years ago

People keep sending them free money so why would any of them leave?

[–] Diplomjodler@feddit.de 10 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago) (1 children)

No matter who comes after him they won't have his talent to whip the morons into a frenzy.

[–] jeffw@lemmy.world 2 points 2 years ago

Maybe the won’t… I’m not confident though

[–] PunnyName@lemmy.world 7 points 2 years ago

The coup marches on.

[–] Sneptaur@pawb.social 4 points 2 years ago (1 children)

This is a very good read. Thank you for sharing

[–] jeffw@lemmy.world 1 points 2 years ago

You’re welcome!
