Here's a handy resource to understand some of the many, many colloquialisms we like to use across the region.

Walter Rodney, born in Guyana on 22nd of march in 1942, Pan-African, Marxist intellectual who was assassinated by the Guyanese government in 1980 at 38 years old.

Rodney attended the University College of the West Indies in 1960 and was awarded a first class honors degree in History in 1963. He later earned a PhD in African History in 1966 at the School of Oriental and African Studies in London, England, at the age of 24.

Rodney traveled extensively and became well-known as an activist, scholar, and formidable orator. He taught at the University of Dar es Salaam in Tanzania from 1966-67 and 1969-1974, and in 1968 at his alma mater University of the West Indies.

On October 15th, 1968, the government of Jamaica declared Rodney a "persona non grata" and banned him from the country. Following his dismissal by the University of the West Indies, students and poor people in West Kingston protested, leading to the "Rodney Riots", which caused six deaths and millions of dollars in damages.

In 1972, Rodney published "How Europe Underdeveloped Africa". Historian Melissa Turner describes the work this way: "A brutal critique of long-standing and persistent exploitation of Africa by Western powers, How Europe Underdeveloped Africa remains a powerful, popular, and controversial work in which Rodney argued that the early period of African contact with Europe, including the slave trade, sowed the seeds for continued African economic underdevelopment and had dramatically negative social and political consequences as well. He argued that, while the roots of Africa’s ailments rested with intentional underdevelopment and exploitation under European capitalist and colonial systems, the only way for true liberation to take place was for Africans to become cognizant of their own complicity in this exploitation and to take back the power they gave up to the exploiters."

On June 13th, 1980, Rodney was killed in Georgetown, Guyana via a bomb given to him by Gregory Smith, a sergeant in the Guyana Defence Force, one month after returning Zimbabwe. In 2015, a "Commission of Inquiry" in Guyana that the country's then president, Linden Forbes Burnham, was complicit in his murder.

"If there is to be any proving of our humanity it must be through revolutionary means."

Know what gets the goods? Lying. I may have a solid union gig at a hotel lined up and all I had to do was lie and say I have my blue seal for cooking. I have the skillset to match the lie and someone to corroborate it who does have credentials. Wish me luck. Otherwise I'll have to lie somewhere else until it works.

Appropos of nothing, someone else from the lib discord server has told me they started Unjust Depths and find it comfy.

I am now convinced that it is a mind virus to be spread. I think the fact that it's free and literally two clicks away makes it easy for Unjust Depths to hook people. I will continue doing this

ive been buying clothes off pandabuy, why the fuck would i pay full price or the funko pop'd american price of anything when i can get something that looks exactly like it or better for less

never going back although im not super into clothes, i just want to complete a few outfits and a quality winter jacket since ive only ever had layers to keep warm growing up.

me coming to class ten minutes late because train was delayed, wearing three layers of pants, two layers of socks canvas shoes, and two sweaters under a light jacket in sub-zero weather "sorry i need to dock your grade for coming in late, sorry thats the policy" rich kids who live on campus or close by never have to worry about this problem fuck this planet

My meemaw insists on praying for me every night even though I explained to her that I'm not a casual and am trying to do life on hard mode. Now when ever I achieve success it will be tainted by the fact that I cheated using the religion exploit. vegeta-pain

all of the dating apps are deeply and malignantly satanic but is it weird that ive grown to prefer T*nder to the ones that are more (on-paper) humanized? i guess since im het masc i like how low effort it is during the initial steps, the numbers are so stacked against any individual swipe going anywhere it feels more honest that I can do that initial part with my brain barely functioning lmao

It's kinda cool seeing people and many Middle-Eastern restaurants replacing their coke/pepsi products with Faygo. That soda truly is a symbol of sticking it to the man. Woop. Woop.

cw suicideFriend of mine, second-gen immigrant who has basically never received love from his family in his entire life has been very frankly telling me he's back to suicidal thoughts after just a few days of job searching. I don't have a lot of experience being the right kind of friend to someone in this precarious position so I'm kinda hoping someone in here will have some basic advice for keeping this dude around.

I had some luck getting him to laugh about it (I struggled with this stuff when I was a teenager so I have some of my own strategies), doing the whole "you gotta stay alive because you'd hurt my feelings otherwise and you had better respect my selfish needs" but I'm worried. He needs some real connection but I'm just his buddy and there's only so much I can do.

I feel like I’m totally overcome by the command to Not Post Cringe. I can respond to questions or even make related comments, but I’m literally never the first to start a topic or ask a question. What type of crazy is this? Anyone figure out how to deal with it?

I'm finally, FINALLY at the end of my midterm college assignments. For the past two weeks I've barely left the house because I've had so much work to do. God it feels good to have that behind me because I was having a massive stress breakdown

Downstairs neighbors are playing music so loud the beat gave my partner a panic attack :(

I would say I hate apartments but that’s not even true, I hate that apartments are built so poorly that I can hear everything my neighbors do

season 4 blowback is so easy to listen to, i feel like im able to understand what happened each episode on generally one listen sometimes two.

In terms of listenability it has been: Season 4 > 1 > 2 > 3

i could definitely give season 2 a listen to again.

i plan on listening to holocaust history and i'm also interested in learning about something like the federal reserve because i dont know shit about what it does or why its bad
