I love when Watterson tone shifts his style. The detail and lighting in the super hero panel is just beautiful. Calvin's imagination is so vivid and detailed compared to his reality. It really sells just how imaginative and creative Calvin is.

Watterson has so much range

This is easily my favorite strip, visually. So cool.

Thanks for posting the Tracer Bullet strips, that's some of his best. The amazing thing about them is that Waterson by his own admission never really read any Noir fiction, he was just writing the strips based on his impressions of the genre, and yet the writing is perfect. Some standouts here:

"I keep two Magnums in my desk. One's a gun, and I keep it loaded. The other's a bottle, and it keeps me loaded. I'm Tracer Bullet. I'm a professional snoop."

"I introduced the dame to a friend who's very close to my heart. Just a little down and left, to be specific. My friend is an eloquent speaker. He made three profound arguments while I excused myself from the room. I always leave when the talk gets philosophical."

Incredibly hard lines.
