A celebrity pick honestly wouldn't be a terrible move for them.
But what about the norms?!
They don't care about the norms ans can easily persuade their base to adjust their priorities on this.
I'd argue the Dems care more about the "norms" than they care about winning.
Maybe some of them, but I think it's just weaponized incompetence
