Paper cuts are painful because at a microscopic level paper is quite rough, paper acts like a saw blade and does more damage to nerve endings leaving behind tiny fibres that cause further irritation. (www.sciencefocus.com)

The bleaching chemicals for whitening the papers is caustic. It will spice up a cut nicely. The whitest paper burns the most.
