Hi everyone. Just wondering what hardware you use and any hindsight from going that route.

I am currently looking at purchasing a home server for a bunch of different apps. I am limited to my budget (aren't we all ๐Ÿ™„) which is around the $300usd. I've been looking at Raspberry Pi 5 somewhat seriously but found there are other versions (Orange Pi and others). Which have the best modules?

Do you run budget home servers?

I wouldn't go ARM if I was starting again. I've actually replaced all my ARM boards with x86 (though I still have them around for random stuff that's not integrated into the lab). I'd look for a cheap Bee-link box to use as a server for starting out. You can upgrade RAM/storage later.
