If getting a Paxlovid prescription is not an option, 2 other things you can do to reduce the viral load of COVID while you are sick with it, which decreases the severity/lowers your risk of long COVID:

  • Use a mouthwash containing .07% CPC (like Parodontax or Crest Pro-Health) twice a day while you are sick [1]

  • Use a Carrageenan nasal spray like Flo nasal spray 3x per day [2].

Sources[1] Efficacy of CPC mouthwash for decreasing the viral load of COVID: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC8941951/

[2] Efficacy of using a nasal spray while you have COVID to decrease the severity and make you get better faster: https://ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC9969373

Although Paxlovid is the first/most important thing to do to decrease your likelihood of long COVID, using CPC mouthwash and nasal sprays while you have COVID is a good idea to do regardless, with or without Paxlovid.

+1 for getting paxlovid asap if you can. a comrade posted some instructions in here this fall/winter for getting a script through telemedicine that really helped me.

this wasn't it but looks helpful, I had to get mine the day before thanksgiving and paid retail for it from an out-of-network pharmacy because every pharmacy in my area was going to be closed

Unfortunately you can't get paxlovid in Australia unless you're over 70 or immunocompromised

sorry, forgot you're in the upside down

This is clutch advice. I can't take paxlovid because of benzos. Last time I just had to ride it out and hope for nothing too long lasting.

How does a carrageenan spray compare to a spray like covixyl?

[–] sovietknuckles@hexbear.net 5 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

I use both and prefer Covixyl, but I'm not aware of any ELAH nasal sprays sold in Australia

why does crest mouthwash need 55 AAA batteries?

[–] sovietknuckles@hexbear.net 3 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

It doesn't. A one-star review says as much
