The very fact that they planned to implement it default on should be warning Windows users. As in: it's a poorly thought feature that shows that Microsoft does not give a flying fuck about your privacy. This one caused a backslash and forced MS to rethink it, but how many went past the radar?
And it's still a security nightmare. Now invaders don't need to install spyware into your system, they just need to turn it on.
Totally agree with your take on it - this is a Security Incident waiting to happen.
