Incoming CIA sponsored coup/assassination.

She appears to be a Social Democrat, not a Socialist, so she should be safe as long as she plays ball with the US, rather than pushing back against US Imperialism.

Morena is a pretty solid party overall, and we should treat socdems in the global south differently from their counterparts in the imperial core.

AMLO for example is pushing hard against the US extradition of Julian Assange, even playing the the collateral murder video when some New York Times journalists started throwing shade. Morena also recognizes Palestine and is closing doors to Israel, against the wishes of the US.

Great to see the people of Mexico continuing to support Morena and reject liberalism, this is a great day.

Indeed, I don't mean to downplay this day! Just to point out that I am hopeful that she can do some great work unhindered by US hostilities. Social Democracy in the Global South is fundamentally not based on Imperialism like in the Global North, I absolutely agree.

Ya for sure! Its exciting times, her election is not something that could've happened even in the 1990s.

Hopefully this creates a pattern, it's very hopeful to see!

Mexico recently applied to join the Genocide case against israel.

Lets hope she can keep it going. It's difficult to do deals withh America without being forced into supporting a few coups every so often.

Social democracy is a subsection inside the umbrella of Socialism. So she's both.

[–] Cowbee@lemmy.ml 13 points 2 years ago (1 children)

It is not. Social Democracy is a subsection inside the umbrella of Liberalism.

I'm aware of what Social Democracy is. It's an increase in Social Safety Nets within the framework of Capitalism, therefore it is a Capitalist ideology, and falls under the umbrella of Liberalism.

The division on whether social democracy is a socialist movement or not pretty much coincides with the division between reform and revolution as means to attain socialism.

A conundrum with nearly a definitive answer, at this point.

[–] Urist@lemmy.ml 3 points 2 years ago

Yeah... Still, considering only my self interest I am really glad I am living in a social democracy opposed to many of the other hellscapes forged by capitalism.

Social democracy gets some things right, for all its faults.
