Paper cuts are painful because at a microscopic level paper is quite rough, paper acts like a saw blade and does more damage to nerve endings leaving behind tiny fibres that cause further irritation. (www.sciencefocus.com)

I believe the actual scientific reason paper cuts hurt so much is because they suck.

My paper has been peer reviewed.
