And that’s the thing. They believe that guns and self defense are rights ordained by god himself, more important than anything else, they think “the government” (rarely do they specifically call out the police) is fundamentally evil for even considering any gun control measure - yet they’re perfectly okay with the same government, same police force, enslaving prisoners or just executing them over flimsy evidence and vibes, that cops are always out to protect you, making it hard to get a job or simply survive.
And it also reveals their true fantasies: when you bring up American soldiers and cops killing innocent people, they’re just “following orders” or “doing their job” from the “incompetent higher ups.” And yet, when you ask who they think will enforce gun control laws, conservatives will proudly declare that they will not comply and cops proudly declare they will not follow their superior orders to confiscate or arrest anyone over gun control. Guns are more important than human life, so much so that they have no problem with massacring families on their officer’s command or watch idly as their partner shoot a cuffed suspect then lie about it; but gun control is such a mortal sin that they will decry it, protest it, and refuse to follow it.
When Hitler was planning those fuckin settlements for Generalplan Ost where german soldiers would live, farm and defend "their" land or whatever, this is unironically pretty close to what he envisioned I think.
