Life walks a tightrope between order and chaos. Early life would struggle a lot to stay viable in such conditions. It would also be far harder for higher order life to evolve successfully. It would be too chaotic.

I don’t know. I’m thinking if you have one environment that’s cold, and one that’s hot, and interaction between them, then you have a cline extending between two extremes and therefore somewhere along that cline, you have the right amount of change for life to evolve.

It’s basically the mean value theorem or something like that.
