I’ve used it for years via RetroPie so hopefully I can copy over all my existing saves and just keep going!

Yep that would work.

I do sometimes wish there was a built-in save sync feature though.

Honestly, save sync would be a major addition. Even if it just uses existing cloud infrastructure like Google Drive or Dropbox.
