Elphinstone Thorpe -- what a name!
People had weird names back then. As much as people complain about the names parents give their kids today, I kind of like that we're going back to that.
There's an old musical which I forget the name of, where the young woman love interest was named Ermingarde. That one always stuck with me cause it was so outlandish sounding to me.
Perhaps she was the progenitor of the "ermahgerd" meme format.
