Was it?
Is it really out of left field when they have you install a rootkit for a game that isn't competitive?
Idk, maybe I'm just cynical, but bad business decisions are bad business decisions. I'm not surprised by this in the least.
Kernel level anti-cheat while I detest it is common. And it's only common because people cheat. If 30% of gamers as a whole weren't cheating in PVP games then we wouldn't be seeing such stupid enforcement attempts in PVE games
I will simply never accept that a PvE game needs anticheat. The concept is silly.
This is just bad decision making.
As somebody who has administrated PVE PVP and PVPVE game servers, I will unfortunately have to laugh at your uninformed opinion. People are shitty and will cause conflict and grief for the smallest reasons. I do not agree with the implementation of such obtuse software to prevent this in a PVE game. I am merely stating the reason it's happening. Personally, we would be much better off of a robust report system. It could have even been done so well in lore. ". Due to fellow citizens report of your undemocratic and unpatriotic behavior, you have been assigned to a suicide squad where you will only be interacting with other degenerates of your nature."
