Has anyone played Barotrauma single player? (kbin.social)

It's 50% off right now and looks interesting. I don't have the capacity to assemble a co-op crew of real humans. From what I've read, the AI crew is very bad. Is the game actually as unplayable as some people make it seem with an AI only crew? Would I be better off saving my money?

I love Barotrauma and I have only played single-player. It's definitely playable, I say get it while it's a deal.
