sort of not really. tankies are just authoritarian communists. made a diagram to clarify.
They call themselves communists at least, but communism is incompatible with authoritarianism
In theory, but not in practice: they're called tankies because they're ideologically identical to the conservative communists who cheered when the USSR sent tanks to suppress the revolutions of more progressive communists.
sort of a no true scottsman error going on here. i don’t think it’s necessarily beneficial to anyone to gatekeep terms like this, just makes the language used to describe each other a mess to deal with.
