No. Definitely tastier. At least the fruit part. There is a different part that is more fleshy that is less tasty. It's used as a pulled pork substitute in vegan dishes.
Doesn't durian smell like shit but taste great? Or is that just propaganda to fool tourists into trying it? (I haven't had the pleasure...)
In my experience it both smells and tastes like shit
