Is this anything to do with the Very Hungry Caterpillar?

Because I feel like, despite the gripping plot arc, the moral lesson was ambiguous at best and I ultimately felt that author hadn’t really studied butterfly anatomy sufficiently to convincingly pull off his final set piece.
