Switching off notifications has been the best thing for me, it's so much easier to not get dragged down that path when you only know if someone has replied if you actively check, which is generally a lot easier to not do, than ignoring notifications is!

I will give reddit credit for one thing - being able to control notifications on individual posts (didn't have to be your own), and even individual comments was a great little feature, but in an all or nothing scenario, nothing has proven to be the better option.

As a browser-only user, I didn't realise Lemmy (and Reddit) apps give you notifications. It makes sense, but it also sounds like a bad idea to have them on.

I'm a a browser-only user too, and I'm not sure how you could miss notifications existing especially since you have to switch them off manually (possible on kbin, but my short experience on lemmy tells me you can't switch them off at all, which is why I don't use it), but yeah, either way, they're a terrible idea..

Oh I thought you meant push notifications (that remind you of dumb arguments when you're just going about your day). The ones in the Lemmy UI aren't as bad but I can definitely see the issue.
