Probably best to start with the low-tier bots.
First thing to learn is to play slowly. Don't just play "your side", you want to figure out your own move, but then also pretend you are the opponent, and figure out what you'd do there, too. Then make the move.
You're basically playing as both players for the entire game. This takes a long time, but making it go quicker is where you learn.
@Candelestine yooo this is awesome advice thanks! I've been obsessed with chess for a couple months now but seem stuck. Been watching vids on different openings and defenses and trying to incorporate them into my games but I think I lack the fundamentals
