For some reason this didn't come up when I was originally googling him. Halfway into touching up a sleeve he ghosted me and left his studio. I googled him again to see if it was just a mistake. Turns out that he was arrested a decade ago for [beating his ex and kidnapping her]. With an infant present throughout all of it. During the last session he mentioned that he's binge drinking and not sleeping after his most recent girlfriend (also a parent) left him for undisclosed reasons.
So anyway I'm going with a different artist and recommend exhaustively researching them. Maybe specify "[artist] convicted" since it turns out google sucks now. 
You would be surprised at how common this is.
