World News
A community for discussing events around the World
Rules:
-
Rule 1: posts have the following requirements:
- Post news articles only
- Video links are NOT articles and will be removed.
- Title must match the article headline
- Not United States Internal News
- Recent (Past 30 Days)
- Screenshots/links to other social media sites (Twitter/X/Facebook/Youtube/reddit, etc.) are explicitly forbidden, as are link shorteners.
-
Rule 2: Do not copy the entire article into your post. The key points in 1-2 paragraphs is allowed (even encouraged!), but large segments of articles posted in the body will result in the post being removed. If you have to stop and think "Is this fair use?", it probably isn't. Archive links, especially the ones created on link submission, are absolutely allowed but those that avoid paywalls are not.
-
Rule 3: Opinions articles, or Articles based on misinformation/propaganda may be removed. Sources that have a Low or Very Low factual reporting rating or MBFC Credibility Rating may be removed.
-
Rule 4: Posts or comments that are homophobic, transphobic, racist, sexist, anti-religious, or ableist will be removed. “Ironic” prejudice is just prejudiced.
-
Posts and comments must abide by the lemmy.world terms of service UPDATED AS OF 10/19
-
Rule 5: Keep it civil. It's OK to say the subject of an article is behaving like a (pejorative, pejorative). It's NOT OK to say another USER is (pejorative). Strong language is fine, just not directed at other members. Engage in good-faith and with respect! This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban.
Similarly, if you see posts along these lines, do not engage. Report them, block them, and live a happier life than they do. We see too many slapfights that boil down to "Mom! He's bugging me!" and "I'm not touching you!" Going forward, slapfights will result in removed comments and temp bans to cool off.
-
Rule 6: Memes, spam, other low effort posting, reposts, misinformation, advocating violence, off-topic, trolling, offensive, regarding the moderators or meta in content may be removed at any time.
-
Rule 7: We didn't USED to need a rule about how many posts one could make in a day, then someone posted NINETEEN articles in a single day. Not comments, FULL ARTICLES. If you're posting more than say, 10 or so, consider going outside and touching grass. We reserve the right to limit over-posting so a single user does not dominate the front page.
We ask that the users report any comment or post that violate the rules, to use critical thinking when reading, posting or commenting. Users that post off-topic spam, advocate violence, have multiple comments or posts removed, weaponize reports or violate the code of conduct will be banned.
All posts and comments will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. This means that some content that violates the rules may be allowed, while other content that does not violate the rules may be removed. The moderators retain the right to remove any content and ban users.

Boy, my sympathy went to 0 pretty damn fast. Might as well have said they went to Nazi Germany as tourists.
edit: grammar
There was a whole Olympics hosted by Nazi Germany.
So Russia's worse than Hitlers's Germany?
Putin's Russia also hosted Olympics
I don't know if media coverage and public awareness about the atrocities are high enough in India to make that judgement.
Russia sell oil cheap to India, so they are good?
Sorry, the power of pedantry compels me. Hope this is of help at least.
Thank you. I knew it looked/sounded wrong.

Indians would certainly have gone to Nazi Germany for a holiday.
That's utterly vile, especially considering that India fought against the Nazis during WWII. I can't imagine being one of the soldiers that came back alive and seeing that shit in my own country.
Don’t forget they fought against Nazi Germany because Britain owned them and forced them too.
Frankly I assume they’d have rather sat the whole thing out and as such I doubt they really cared all too much about a European conflict.
It wasn't just a European issue. They had a name for these types of issues
The
Europe and European colonies plus Japan wanting to join in with European imperialism War?
Or
Europe and European colonies plus Japan wanting to do its own European imperialism after being stiffed last time War?
The world aspect was because Europe decided it owned the world, not because it was the worlds war.
There was conflict on nearly every continent, I'm not saying who started it, just where it happened.
There were based operations in india related to fighting in China and Burma for example.
Frankly this article is an interesting overview. Lots going on

Sure is a lot of Britain in there. Almost like India had no say in the matter🤔
How much of the world war was European colonial powers forcing natives of the lands they had invaded to fight their battles for them? Like I said it was a European war, just because every battlefield wasn’t in Europe doesn’t change that.
You are a victim of propaganda, indoctrination, and tribalism.
Or maybe it's just a bad idea to play tourist in countries that are engaged in active war
Weird how you just moved the goalposts from "Russia is a bad nation" to "it's only bad because it's in active war."
You will never acknowledge how you're a victim of propaganda, indoctrination, and tribalism.
I'm not OP lol
To me this story is about idiots visiting a nation at war and ending up a part of it. Big surprise
Then why are you replying to me?
Make your own comments.

Just stop with the Internet Slap Fight.
Just stop with the Internet Slap Fight.
Stop with the censorship.
You break the rules, you get removed. Simple. Read the sidebar, it's there for a reason.
Said the dude who posts video links and leaves uncivil slapfight responses when you are getting called out for spreading misinformation.
Moderate your own comments before moderating others.
Video links are allowed in comments, they are not allowed as submissions.
You realize you're arguing with one of the people who WROTE THE RULES, right?
Lemmy is a discussion site my dude, replying to comments is what it's for. If you don't want replies, send a PM
Yes, but you're replying to comments that have nothing to do with what you're saying.
Just start your own chain instead of trying to hijack others.
Makes irrelevant comments like "You are a victim of propaganda, indoctrination, and tribalism."
Ok I'll stop feeding the trolls now, have yourself a nice day
Not really.
You just don't like what's being said so you pretend not to understand it.
I see it all the time and don't expect more from people like you.
🍿😃🍿
Got any links to news stories about tourists in Ukraine getting forced into fighting for them.
Take your time. I'll wait.
Or how about Ukraine intentionally targeting missiles at apartment buildings and purely civilian infrastructure with no military value just to murder and terrorize people just trying to live their lives.
If there's anyone here that's a victim of propaganda and indoctrination, you'll find them in the mirror.
What does that have to do with anything?
Why are you so delusional to set up bullshit criteria and think you should be taken seriously by rational people?
