Even if you have a physical copy of the game, under US law all you own is the literal piece of plastic, not any of the data on it itself. If the EULA said you're not allowed to run the game anymore, then continuing to run the game would technically be illegal. ... In every legal capacity, Americans own nothing.

Whenever I actually pay for a PC game, I will always try to do so through GoG

But still, with there is nothing to stop the industry from eventually stopping you from owning anything, and without putting a stop to capitalism it won't just be games that you'll never own.
