For the first time, I know what it's like to get an Atlus game (albeit on sale) only for the updated re-release to be announced not too long after 
If you haven't tried SMTV, I'd recommend waiting for this. Story is meh, but the gameplay is amazing.
Interesting you bring that up.
Idk how much this remake will be able to patch up the story but AFAIK, one of the major complaints is the feeling of "emptiness" which even something as little as adding a good amount of cutscenes might help.
