I haven't read this mini-series but from what I can see each issue focuses on 1 party member going through an individual trial (and also an excuse to tell a story), and for this mage's trial she has to go to the plane where the Modrons live to deal with some magic stuff. There's another new mini series by the same author where I think the whole story takes place in the Planescape setting.
