Farmer protests betray a deeper crisis our politicians won't confront (nation.cymru)

Protests are erupting all over Europe as farmers feel the squeeze of policies that on the one hand demand that they farm more sustainably and on the other continue to sell produce at prices that struggle to meet the cost of production.

At the same time, the last weekend of January saw the first hunger march in the South Wales valleys in a hundred years against a backdrop of spiralling food bank use and a shocking rise in cases of malnutrition.

In the past few weeks there has been a stream of headlines reporting alarming if all too predictable research pointing to the declining physical and mental health of our citizens, particularly children, as a result of poor diet. In short, if you need to see the evidence of a broken and dysfunctional food system, turn on the news.

I'm assuming you didn't read this article.

Given that these farmer aren't protesting Ukraine (Ukraine isn't even mentioned once in the article) and they are in fact protesting corrupt politicians and profiteering corporations.

Thanks for assuming and making an ass out of u and me, but no I read the article and I am talking about farmers in general, rural education needs to get better so that all farmers can stop being ignorant, useful idiots to right wing propaganda.

This is a pretty bad attitude to have about a group of people.

What is it exactly that these farmers are Ignorant of? Is it the diversification of rural land in order to operate in a more sustainable way? Perhaps it's the skyrocketing costs of not just growing crops in dwindling environments, but also the costs related with harvesting and transporting? Or it could be the billions in grants and funding lost, that our current agricultural system relied heavily on, when brexit happened. (Oh and by the way, Farmers in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland did NOT vote in majority support for brexit, despite the opposite being believed)

I'm sure you know much more about these issues than the farmers, thanks to your non-rural education, right?

And you might be thinking - "Well those issues don't affect me", but if you live in Wales, and you buy food from Asda, Tesco or Sainsbury's then it does affect you. You will be landed with one of two things - Worse quality food in order to maintain lower prices (Who am I kidding, shrinkflation exists, so shitter food for more money), or increased costs in order to maintain the products that you are used to.

For a country in the middle of an economic crisis as impactful as this is, these changes are absolutely massive. To call this 'right wing propaganda' is at best just naive and stupid, but at worst actively malicious. Attack the agricultural sector in Wales if you choose to, but don't be surprised when it comes around and bites you in the ass.

And that's all what I covered in my initial reply, you're so hung up that I "offended" farmers with what I said, meanwhile you're basically regurgitating the symptoms to those that are the root causes of all the problems you've listed here. Also let's be objective here, obviously I'm not talking about all farmers, but definitely what seems like the majority.

Food prices affect us all, and I'm not some rich person where these things don't effect me, I realize that the farmers are just as much victim as the rest of us, but farmers in America, England, Poland, everywhere constantly vote and support those that work against them.

Also yes the right wing and right wing foreign entities are stirring this shit up, just like they helped foster Brexit, just like they're fostering every growing rift in our civilization, to be blind to it is absolutely to be ignorant to it.
