I had the opposite problem as a kid. I ran from battles so I could get to the next story beat quicker and ended up under leveled for a boss at some point and had to hang em up. Thats how every JRPG ended for me as a kid.
Same lmao, it wasn't until years later that I started to dabble in CRPGs and found how they're the inverse of the JRPG, shit stories but fantastic combat.
Fallout 1 and Fallout 2 broke that rule for me at least. The talking heads were the greatest thing known to gaming.
Yeah Fallout is peak CRPG story telling, but there's a lot of stinkers too.
What's a CRPG?
I've always known that acronym as "computer role-playing game" but it's often also used to mean "classic role-playing game", as opposed to "action role-playing game".
It's more as opposed to ttrpg, table top role playing game.
I meant classic vs. action if you're only talking about computer RPGs, but you're right about computer vs. tabletop.
I was just adding, yeah computer doesn't make as much sense anymore because RPGs are so much more diverse on the computer today.
My favorite way to play these games nowadays is to do this but then look up the speedrun strats and beat the bosses with those. Underleveled FF7 where you win anyway because Tifa is doing 8k damage a turn is
I was stuck in Mount Gagazet for so long because I was too proud to level up.
Lmao same struggle. Except where I got stuck was the airship fight.
