Just as a heads up, there is no reason to believe this is real.

Is “I really want it to be real” a reason?

[–] Runcible@hexbear.net 29 points 2 years ago (3 children)

also I think this reenforces really bad elements of our culture (i.e. this seems like an expression of toxic masculinity to me not that I have engaged in literature on this)

For me, reactionaries facing divorce will always be funny.

Like, look at what happened to Musk post-divorce.

[–] Runcible@hexbear.net 25 points 2 years ago (2 children)

Yeah, I get that part. I just have been thinking more about the whole "world's most divorced man" formula and divorce jokes lately. I've had two friends go through divorces recently and have been trying to be more aware of how people talk about it and what message these jokes are sending.

For normal people, divorce is a tragedy.

For billionaires and fascists, divorce is a farce.

which is what? "don't be a misogynist reactionary mra weirdo?"

[–] Runcible@hexbear.net 3 points 2 years ago

I guess what I'm saying is that this is the "civility" approach to the same worldview as mra weirdos

Yeah, it seems like there's an incredible amount of horny energy related to this. "I want them to get a divorce so I can have a chance with her" seems to be almost universally the motivating factor for all of this.

[–] Parzivus@hexbear.net 19 points 2 years ago (1 children)

??? No? It's always funny when conservatives get divorced, it's pretty common and its good every time.

[–] Othello@hexbear.net 10 points 2 years ago (1 children)

do you not see all these "oh boy do I have a chance now?" comments?

[–] jack@hexbear.net 11 points 2 years ago

no I close my eyes when something might challenge my bits

[–] Runcible@hexbear.net 19 points 2 years ago

The hornyposting is pretty blatant in the first tweet for this one, but I see a lot of this basically tying a person's worth to the continuation of a relationship. No interest is paid to the quality or health of the relationship (not that that would be better from rando posters for public figures) which basically just leaves the whole thing leaning into women as trophies. I don't think it's the intent per se, I just think it's implicit in the mockery.

And let's be real, anyone foolish enough to voice these thoughts out loud is never "getting a chance" with anyone. Women can sense this kind of stuff from a mile away.

i for one do not mind celebrating the potential collapse of a racist asshole's marriage, and wish ms fetterman the best.
