These panels are so good. The crooked first panel to emphasize the WHOK as the Amazon's head spills out into the rest of the comic. The little insert shots of the big dude's chin and eyes. The flatter panels at the bottom as we go back to the real world. Other artists had done all this stuff before, but Watterson's sense of comic storytelling is really top notch. Calvin and Hobbes took a big jump in quality when he got the freedom to experiment with panel layouts.
Plus the faux-Frank Miller writing style of the captions that was popular at the time is dead on.
