After Turkey voted to admit Sweden, Mr. Orban on Wednesday said he would push Hungary’s Parliament to follow suit but gave no timeline and repeated a longstanding assertion that legislators make their own decisions. [...] Hungary repeatedly promised that it would not be the last country to accept Sweden and has advanced a wide range of different reasons for its foot-dragging. These include gripes about teaching materials in Swedish schools, complaints about years-old comments made by Mr. Kristersson and members of his cabinet, and scheduling difficulties.

NYT article

“It has nothing to do with Sweden now, it has nothing to do with Turkey now. It’s merely Orbán’s personal attitude,” [said Agnes Vadai]. “It shows that he's driven not by political rationale, but by personal vanity. There is no gain for Hungary in this game anymore, because it's a game that he's playing.”
