I'm not American so I'm a bit unclear, however this photo has me wondering.

Was the civil war about the confederacy trying to ban having hair on your head?

The first article of the Confederacy is that you must put all of your energy into growing out your facial hair, even if you have to divert that energy from your head hair.

(serious answer - the US Civil War was over slavery - the rebel Confederacy attempted to secede to continue keeping black folk as slaves)

It's a disappointment the Republicans shifted their main focus from individual liberty to having clandestine gay sex in public bathrooms.

Indeed. Clandestine gay sex in public bathrooms is potentially a wonderful thing, just like individual liberty.
